2011 Central Basin, Lake Erie Fishing Report from Captain John Gribble Last Update:10-15-2011
Oct 15, 2011: WIND, WIND, WIND!! NO FISHING FOR NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS. Oct 14, 2011: Fished 70 ft. of water today North of Geneva State Park. Wind started to pick up and Lake was kicking!! Pulled 240 Perch in just two hours time. Weather next couple of days not looking good with the cold front that's moving in. Oct 13, 2011: Pulled 180 perch today in 69 ft of water North of Geneva. Fish weighed in at 82 lbs. Deep water seems to be bringing the big numbers. Oct 12, 2011: Great Fishing!!. Pulled 180 perch in 68 ft of water North of Geneva State Park. Water kicked up as the day went but so did the fishing. Weather looks good for next day or so, cold front moving in later in the week. Oct 11, 2011: Great Fishing Today. Pulled 240 Perch in 68 ft of water North of Geneva. Weather was great and fishing was even better. Deep water is producing great numbers for us but seems that the smaller boats are sticking it out in 42-45 ft of water. Oct 10, 2011: Fished 67 ft. of water North of Geneva to pull 180 JUMBO Perch that weighed in at 88 lbs. Not sure how the guys are doing close to the Harbor but seems no one but us wants to spend the fuel to go deep. Sept 30, 2011: WIND, WIND, WIND!! NO FISHING FOR NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS. Sept 29, 2011: Fished 57 ft. of water today North of Ashtabula. Wind started to pick up and Lake was kicking!! Pulled 150 nice Perch in just an hours time. Weather next couple of days not looking good with the cold front that's moving in. Sept 28, 2011: Two boat trip today. Pulled 420 Perch North of Ashtabula in 66 ft. of water. Deep water seems to be the place if you can make it out there. Sept 27, 2011: Great Fishing!!. Pulled 114 lbs. of Perch in 62 ft of water North of Ashtabula Harbor. Fished only 2 hrs in the afternoon to get these babies!! Weather was beautiful!! Weather looks good for next day or so, cold front moving in later in the week. Sept 26, 2011: Great Fishing Today. Pulled 240 Perch in 66 ft of water North of Ashtabula Harbor. Weather came in late in the day but fishing was HOT, HOT, HOT!! 3 boat afternoon trip tomorrow. Hope late bite is as good as morning bite. Sept 25, 2011: Fished 67 ft. of water North of Ashtabula to pull 240 JUMBO Perch that weighed in at 88 lbs. Not sure how the guys are doing close to the Harbor. Sept 24, 2011: Two boat trip today. Pulled 410 Perch NE of Ashtabula in 62 ft. of water. Some guys got them faster but very light bite. White Bass in shallow water. Weather looks good for tomorrow, chance of rain in the AM. Sept 23, 2011: Great Fishing Today. Pulled 240 Perch in 56 ft of water North of Ashtabula Harbor. Weather blew in late in the day to make the ride in very interesting. Weather looks good after tonight for the weekend. Sept 22, 2011: Fished 57 ft. of water NE of Ashtabula to pull 240 JUMBO Perch. If you got bait you will do just fine!! Goldie's working well!! Weather looks good for AM but not in the afternoon tomorrow. Sept 21, 2011: Two boat trip today. Pulled 480 Perch NE of Ashtabula in 57 ft. of water by noon. Goldie's and emeralds working good. Weather looks good for tomorrow. Sept 20, 2011: Slow start today. Picked up and moved out to 57 ft. NE of Ashtabula. Started slow but BIG Perch. Waited them out and when they went it was on!! 2 and 3 Perch at a time. Pulled 180 in no time!! Sept 19, 2011: WINDY!! Very windy today. Blew 30+ from the South so we looked in 43 ft. to find some good marks. Fished till noon to have only 80 Perch but it was 80 BIG Perch. Weather looks good for tomorrow. Hope deep hole is still working. Sept 18, 2011: Beautiful day on the water. Started off perch fishing in 49 ft NE of Ashtabula, slow. Moved to 60 ft. of water and found 10-14 inch Yellow Perch. BIG FISH TUFF TACKLE coming in for the next couple of days, hope big perch will still be in 60 ft. Sept 12, 2011: Fished North of Ashtabula in 60 ft. of water. Pulled 150 Perch in 2 hrs. Pulled anchor and ran North to 70 ft. of water to setup for Walleye. Walleye was slow but fish we pulled were NICE!! #2 dipsey 185 back with the NEW Contender Heavy Weight Spoons and Tru Trip 50's 100 back. Color: Casper, Blue Demon Sept 11, 2011: Ran back NE of Ashtabula to 62 ft of water with 3 boats. Pulled 600 Yellow Perch in 3 hrs. HOT, HOT, HOT!! Pulled anchor and ran North another 5 miles to setup for Walleye. Ran into sheep head until I reached 72 ft. of water. Tru Trip 50's back 90-100 ft with NEW Contender Heavy Weight Spoons worked very well. Blue Demon and Huckleberry were best two colors. # 2 Dipsey back 165 was working with Contender Heavy Weight TEAM DB and the NEW BITE ME color. Sept 10, 2011: Started in 60 ft. of water NE of Ashtabula. Pulled a few perch but on the small size. Moved slightly North to 62 ft. of water to find a nice pocket of Perch 9-13 inches. Pulled a limit of 180 in 2 hrs. Pulled the hook and moved North another 5 miles to start trolling in 70 ft. of water. Pulled some BIG Eyes on Tru Trip 50's back 100-110 on New Contender Heavy Weight Spoons. Color: TEAM DB, Casper, War Head. FOR ALL DB CUSTOMERS PLEASE CALL CAPT.
